History:

Henry Paine converted the gardener's shed standing along the swimming pool (date unknown) into a garden office/studio for his architectural practice. The shed had been used for Umkonto we Sizwe meetings so it is associated with the struggle. Several ANC Umkonto we Sizwe were accommodated during the last years of the struggle. Max Ozinski, one of the members of Operation Vula, was also accommodated in the house for almost a year. Ronnie Kasrils (the "Scarlet Pimpernel") used to visit him clandestinely. (JHF archives)
