Popularly known as the “People’s Cathedral” Regina Mundi (“Queen of the World”) was a rallying point during the dark days of apartheid, offering sanctuary as well as spiritual comfort to people from various political organizations.The foundation stone was laid in 1962 by Cardinal Montini, who became Pope Pius V1, and the Cathedral was built by Father Gerard Coleman.
